Casey’s mid-long-tail fatbike

I’m not sure the difference between a midtail and a longtail but some call this a midtail and i just call it a longtail, since i’ve never made anything longer than a bike with 640mm chainstays.

Casey will be on the ITI course, starting at 2pm today (2/23/25), so if you’re interested in following some blue dots check out Trackleaders! Here’s the full race rig roundup at Bikepacking. A few midtails in there, a ton of custom bags, a couple cool custom racks, and the highest density of Portage Handles i’ve ever seen thanks to the new Corvus Akio.

This is the 4th or 5th bike i’ve built that’s been on the ITI. It’s always fun to see bikes you build be put to such a grueling test. Full custom bikes are always a journey and Casey’s was no different. He went all out on the frame build knowing he was going to spend a lot of time on this bike, especially a lot of cold winter days and nights. It’s got a ton of attachment points and a heavy duty rear rack connected by M8 hourglass bosses to support a massive custom bag made by Dispersed Bikepacking. BicyclePubes was given free reign on the design of the anodized finishwork and Peter at Agave made it a reality in the most amazing manner.

Casey broke in the bike at the Arrowhead 135 and gave positive reviews of the ride quality, and i guess it’s ok to push too being not too heavy. We’ll see how this year’s ITI goes, looks to be a relatively warm one with no soft snow on course or in the forecast. Good luck and have fun Casey!
